Make the case for a promotion or an internal role
A role above you has come up, or you want your manager to back you for the next level. Get a pitch that shows you're already doing parts of the job.
The problem
You assume your work speaks for itself, and then someone more vocal gets the promotion. Internal moves need a case, just like external ones.
