Sponsor content guidelines
These rules are part of the Sponsorship terms. A placement on SME Automation shows your logo, a short brief, and one link. We label it "Sponsored" and the link uses rel="sponsored". It must be readable as an advertisement. It must not look like our own editorial. We review every submission against these guidelines before it goes live.
Text limits
On a prompt page (a one-liner, a recipe, or a combo): the sponsor name is at most 40 characters, the brief is at most 140 characters, and there is one link.
On the site banner or the site footer: the headline is at most 60 characters, the brief is at most 200 characters, and there is one link.
Counts include spaces.
Logo
Send an SVG, or a PNG with a transparent background.
A horizontal logo should be at least 400 pixels wide. The longest side should be no more than 1,200 pixels. The file should be no larger than 200 KB.
Do not add a tagline inside the image unless it is already part of the registered logo.
Tone
Write the name, the headline, and the brief in plain, factual language. Do not use a superlative we cannot check, such as best, leading, number one, or guaranteed. Do not write words in ALL CAPS. Do not add a string of emojis.
Link
Send exactly one HTTPS address. It must open the landing page itself.
The landing page must be relevant to the prompt page, banner, or footer the placement sits on. Do not use a redirect chain, or a tracker that stops the page loading.
What we will not run
We will not run a placement that is, or that links to:
Adult content.
Gambling.
Crypto, or a financial promotion, unless you hold the FCA authorisation that promotion needs.
Weapons.
A multi-level marketing scheme.
A health claim that is misleading.
Hate.
Anything illegal.
Malware, or a page that tries to install it.
Advertising rules and rights
The logo, the brief, and the landing page must comply with the UK Code of Non-broadcast Advertising and Direct & Promotional Marketing (the CAP Code) and with ASA rules.
You must own the rights to the logo and to any trademark in it, or have a written licence that covers this placement. You confirm the brief is true.
Review, fixes, and resubmission
Send the logo, the name or headline, the brief, and the link to [email protected]. We review the submission against these guidelines within 2 working days, before it goes live.
If we reject the content, before the slot starts or during it, change it so it meets these guidelines and send the replacement to the same address. We review the new version within 2 working days.
A rejection is not a refund and it is not a credit. The slot period keeps running. We do not pause it, and we do not extend the end date, while you fix the content or while we review it. There is no refund and no credit in any circumstances, including if we remove the slot. The fee rules are in the Sponsorship terms.
